Unique Salt and Pepper Shakers

The set of shakers is uniquely handmade from 100% salt and therefore can differ slightly from each other.

Why do people put rice in salt and pepper shakers?

Salt is an hygroscopic substance and it absorbs water from the air. ( the process we use is innovative since it reduces that characteristic tremendously). When you put grains like rice or small beans, they tend to absorb the moisture more quickly, leaving the salt drier so that it flows smoothly.

 What is the oldest saltshaker?

Saltshakers are relatively a modern designed objects like… cars. The first ones were designed only in the midst of 19th century. Before that period , salt cellars were in use.

 Why is salt called salt?

The word salt derives from the Latin word SAL. Salt was the money in ancient times and a sack of salt- Salarium,  was the payment given to the Roman soldiers. The word salary therefore derives from that root.
